Roses must be the most well loved flower of all time not only for weddings their image is present in both Literature and art. The rose is often associated with romance, opulence and passion.
Reasons for choosing roses for your wedding may depend on form, colour and size, scent is also a deciding factor , the beautiful aroma of Jacaranda or Ecstasy for example.
There are many varieties available commercially and they can be used simply massed together in a hand tied bouquet or dismantled, threaded and rolled. Petite spray roses are perfect for detailed wedding work like corsages or head dresses.
Tulips come in many colours and forms, used correctly their design quality can be stunning. The parrot tulip comes in many colour combinations and the French tulips are perfect for dramatic weaved designs. The only problem with using this beautiful flower is they do not like to be out of water for too long.
The Lily is still a favourite choice for wedding flowers, mainly due to their ability to withstand being out of water, they are fairly robust and available in many colours.
Zantedeschia Calla is one of my favourites they have a beautiful and elegant form and come in a range of sizes and colours. They are versatile in design terms for Calla wands, limited bouquets and over arm sheaf style bouquets. Stunning!
Freesias also come in a variety of colours and adapt to almost all wedding designs, they are delicate and caution must be used when handled, they have a wonderful perfume that is often the decider for Brides when choosing this flower.
The Orchid is perfect for bridal work. The Phalanopsis (moth orchid) can make a design luxurious and special and look simply glorious as buttonholes. Cymbidium, Vanda, Miltonia and Dendrobium are also very versatile and last wonderfully.
